Leaf Match Challenge
Collect fallen leaves and sort them! Find big ones, small ones, and ones in different colors and shapes.

Parent note
Safety: collect only leaves already on the ground; do not pick leaves from plants you can't identify (poison ivy/oak/sumac have classic three-leaf patterns — 'leaves of three, let it be'). Wash hands after handling fallen leaves (fungi, bird droppings, insect residue). Check for ticks after time in tall grass or leaf piles. For the transpiration experiment (plastic bag around a branch), small children need adult supervision so bags don't end up over faces. Apply sunscreen and bring water. Stay with your child in public parks; review stranger awareness. Reduced-mobility adaptation: leaf collection is fully seated-accessible — a parent can gather a diverse sample from nearby and bring them to the child for sorting, measuring, classifying, rubbing, pressing, and photography. All of the botanical-terminology work, measurement and ratio calculation, field guide creation, and natural-selection research is desk-based.
