Flower Power Hunt
Find flowers outside! How many colors can you spot? Smell them gently and compare which ones have the strongest smell.

Safety: many common garden flowers are toxic if eaten (foxglove, oleander, lily of the valley, azalea, rhododendron) — rule is LOOK, don't taste. Check for bees, wasps, and ants BEFORE smelling a flower; have the child smell from a few inches away, not face-in. Some children have pollen allergies — watch for sneezing/watery eyes. Don't touch or pick poison ivy/oak/sumac. Wash hands after handling flowers. Apply sunscreen; bring water. Stay with your child in public gardens; review stranger awareness. Reduced-mobility adaptation: flower observation, photography, petal counting, and pollinator watching are all fully seated-accessible. Many botanical gardens have paved accessible paths. For the pressing/dissection work in older tiers, do it at a desk after collection. The pollinator observation study works perfectly from a stationary seated position.
