Rock Collection Quest
Find 3-5 different rocks! Compare their colors, sizes, and textures. Which is the heaviest? Smoothest?

Parent note
Safety: watch for sharp edges, broken glass, and rusty metal — especially along paths, beaches, and old construction sites. Don't let children pick up chunks of broken concrete (can have rebar). For vinegar-fizz tests, kid-safe but supervise. Wash hands after handling rocks. Stay with your child in public areas — review stranger awareness before leaving. Weather: skip this activity in extreme heat (rocks on pavement can burn hands) or when storms are forecast. Reduced-mobility adaptation: fully wheelchair-accessible on paved trails and gravel shoulders. Parent can gather a small rock assortment from multiple nearby locations and bring them to the child for sorting, measuring, hardness-testing, and photography — all of which work from seated. Geological map drawing, streak testing (on a tile on a tray), and research steps are desk-based.
