Bug Safari
Go on a bug hunt! Look under rocks, on leaves, and in the grass to find 3 different creepy crawlies.

Parent note
Safety: observe insects, never handle them. Parents should lift/replace any rocks (snakes, wasps, scorpions may hide underneath — tip AWAY from the body). Stay away from bees, wasps, fire ants, hornets, and any fuzzy/brightly colored caterpillar (some species sting or cause rashes). Wash hands after the hunt. Check for ticks after time in tall grass or leaf litter. Apply sunscreen and bug spray (use kid-safe formulations, avoid face). Stay with your child in public parks — review stranger awareness. Reduced-mobility adaptation: most observation work is fully seated-accessible. For the under-a-rock and in-leaf-litter microhabitats, parent lifts the item and brings the creature to eye level for observation; the identification, measurement, and data-tracking goals all transfer. Speed-of-ant timing and photography work from a chair. For the upper-elementary biodiversity study, the 3-habitat comparison works on accessible paved trails through varied landscape (many arboretums and nature centers have fully ADA-accessible trails).
