Early elementary (ages 6–8)

Steps
- Choose a vehicle and research how it works.
- Write step-by-step instructions with numbered steps and simple diagrams.
- Include a title page, introduction, steps, and a fun fact at the end.

Upper elementary (ages 8–10)
Write an informational article explaining the science behind how a vehicle works. Include technical vocabulary, cause-and-effect relationships, and a diagram.
Steps
- Research the mechanics of a chosen vehicle (how wings create lift, how engines work, etc.).
- Write a 3-paragraph article with an introduction, explanation with cause-and-effect language, and conclusion.
- Create a labeled diagram that supports your written explanation.
- Real-language extension: with a parent, find a 5-minute video about how vehicles work in your target language (a Spanish or French children's science channel, NHK Kids in Japanese, etc.). Take notes on 5 new vocabulary words. Use those 5 words in original sentences in the target language and read them aloud to a family member.

Safety and evidence note
Read the full activity before beginning. An adult should supervise tools, heat, food, outdoor work, movement, and experiments as appropriate. Completion records that the activity was done; the child’s explanation, work sample, photo, or demonstration is stronger evidence of learning than a completion check alone.
